Biography

Susan Melinda Morée is a writer and teacher. Her poetry and fiction appear in New Mexico Poetry Anthology 2023, 2River, Bulb Culture Collective, Piltdown Review and elsewhere. A nonprofit, New Mexico Writers, awarded her in 2023 with a grant to support the writing of a poetry manuscript. The Montana Arts Council, through the Root and the Bloom Collective, has also provided grant support. Piltdown Review featured Susan Melinda in 2018.

Susan Melinda has been long listed for the Leslie Scalapino Award for Experimental Writing, a finalist for a Jerome Fellowship and a Heideman Award. Her fiction was named a notable story by the storySouth’s Million Writers Award.

Susan Melinda’s plays have appeared at the Sixth Festival in Chicago, the Last Chance New Play Fest in Montana, the William Inge Festival in Kansas, as part of an aerialist production with Project in Motion in New Mexico and at a maximum security prison in Lancaster, California. She has curated a theatre program for Bric Studio in Brooklyn. She got her start in theatre in Prague, The Czech Republic, by stage managing for an expatriated theatre company.
She has studied dramatic literature at Columbia University and was part of the team that catalogued the Tennessee Williams Collection at Columbia University’s Rare Book and Manuscript Library. She worked in publishing for St. Martin’s Press and Columbia University Press. She has also worked for theatre institutions including New York City Opera and Blue Man Group.

In 2022, the National Endowment for the Arts asked Susan Melinda to serve as a grant panelist.

Susan Melinda currently teaches classes in poetry and fiction writing for Cruces Creatives. She has taught creative writing and literature at Brooklyn College, where she received her MFA in creative writing and received the Louis B. Goodman Creative Writing Scholarship. She has also taught expository writing for Rutgers University, theatre appreciation for Western New Mexico University and created a class called Environment + Literature for Montana Technical University.
